The short answer for AR models
Most water complaints on an Avanti AR refrigerator come from condensate that is being made exactly as designed and is no longer being carried away. The defrost system melts the evaporator on schedule; if the path from there to the drain pan is blocked, that water ends up in the cabinet.
Symptoms, and the ones that mean something else
- A sheet of ice on the freezer floor — Melt that refroze before it could reach the drain.
- Ice building up behind the rear freezer panel — A drain that has frozen rather than silted, and it will keep refreezing until it is cleared.
- Water dripping from the dispenser after each use — A few drops are normal. A steady drip is a dispenser valve not seating.
- Water at the front of the cabinet on the kitchen floor — A drain pan that has cracked or overflowed, or condensate running off a failed door seal.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is also warm — Then cooling is the fault; the water is a symptom of the ice that follows a stalled defrost.
Causes on AR, most likely first
- Defrost drain tube blocked with debris — Ranked first because every unit of this type makes defrost melt and this is the only path it has.
- Blocked or overfilled drain channel behind the liner — The least common of these and the only one that generally needs the liner off.
- Fill valve leaking past its seat — A valve that no longer closes fully drips continuously into the ice maker or down the back panel.
- Defrost drain frozen — Second and closely related: once a slow drain holds water through a cold cycle it freezes solid and then blocks every cycle after it.
Working through it in order
- Start with what the ranking makes most likely — The order below follows the ranking rather than the machine: two of the four causes above cost nothing to rule out on AR models, so they come first.
- Decide whether the water is inside the cabinet or on the floor — Inside means defrost drain; on the floor means pan, seal or supply.
- Watch the dispenser for a minute after use — More than a few drops means the dispenser valve is not seating.
- Look for ice behind the rear freezer panel — Ice there rather than water means the drain has frozen rather than silted.
The two rules that matter on this appliance
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, and accept that a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The second rule is about weight: a loaded refrigerator is far heavier than it looks and the doors come off in your hands if the hinge pins are removed carelessly. Empty it first and get a second person.

When to call a technician
Once the coil is clean, the seals are proved and a full manual defrost has been tried, a fault that remains is a technician job. So is anything that needs a panel removed inside the cabinet.
