Causes, most likely first on the DWF family

- Look at the panel for a lock symbol, a delay or a cycle already running — Seconds to check, and it explains a dead machine surprisingly often.
- Check the supply valve under the sink is open — A machine that cannot fill may simply wait.
- Test the outlet with something else — It is a machine that is plugged and unplugged constantly, and this is the fastest check available.
- Only then suspect the door switch, thermal fuse or board — All three need panels off and belong to a technician on a plumbed machine.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do it before the first panel rather than before the difficult one: the live parts are not where most people expect them.

When to call a technician
Latches, locks, sockets, taps and supply valves are all owner checks on a built-in dishwasher, and together they explain most dead machines. On these models the line falls at the control board and the switches wired to it. Call without working through anything at all for a pump that grinds, or a machine that has never drained properly since installation.
