The short answer

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. On this platform there is no check worth doing that cannot wait the thirty seconds it takes to isolate the machine properly. Close the water supply as well as isolating the electrics, because a hose released under pressure is the other way this job goes wrong.
