The quick verdict
An ASKO washer that trips a protective device, smells hot or gives any tingle should be isolated at the breaker immediately. Then make one observation: does the device still trip with the machine unplugged? Yes means an electrician; no means an appliance technician. Do not run further cycles to gather more evidence.
What the machine is doing
- A protective device tripping during a cycle — Appliance-side, most likely at the heating stage.
- A device that trips with the machine unplugged — House-side. An electrician, not a technician.
- A hot or acrid smell during a cycle — Overheating insulation or a connector. Isolate.
- A tingle from the cabinet or nearby plumbing — An earthing question, and an electrician's call.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and a washer's motor capacitor holds enough to injure in a wet room. A standard household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A. If anybody has felt a shock or tingle from the cabinet, the taps or nearby pipework, stop using the machine and treat it as an earthing fault: that symptom is about the house's protective earthing as much as the appliance, and it is checked before the machine is used again.
When to stop and book someone
Call an electrician first when the device trips with the machine unplugged, when the socket shows heat damage, or when anybody has felt a tingle. Call an appliance technician when the trip only happens while the machine runs, and tell them at which stage. Keep the machine isolated until one of them has attended, and do not move it to another socket to keep using it: that relocates a hazard rather than resolving it.
