The short answer
Water at an integrated refrigerator usually comes down to one thing: the ice maker is overfilling. Next on the list: the defrost drain is blocked. Where the water appears — under a drawer, behind the cabinet, or down the door — decides this faster than any tool.
What you observe
- Water where there was none before — Under a drawer, behind the cabinet, or down the door — each points elsewhere.
- A slab of ice under or behind the ice maker — Water is arriving after the mould is already full.
- Water pools under the crisper drawers first — The channel backs up before it overflows to the floor.
- A slow puddle behind the cabinet that returns after mopping — Pressurised water refills a dried patch; drain water does not.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is also failing to hold temperature — Read the cooling page first — that is one fault with two symptoms.
Causes, most likely first on this unit
- The ice maker is overfilling — First where the water arrives around the ice maker rather than at the base. An inlet valve that no longer seats cleanly keeps dribbling after the fill, the mould overflows, and the overflow freezes into a sheet that eventually finds a way out of the compartment.
- The defrost drain is blocked — Ranked here because it accounts for most refrigerator leaks and it is the only one an owner can fully clear.
- The supply line or its fitting is weeping — Ranked here because it is the only water source on the cabinet that is under pressure all day, every day.
- The filter head or cartridge seat is leaking — Last, and it always points back to the last filter change.
Check in this order, and why
- Look under the ice maker for a sheet of surplus ice — Overfill freezes where it lands and is unmistakable.
- Find the drain hole at the base of the rear wall and clear it — A blocked channel is the commonest leak in refrigeration.
- Dry behind the cabinet and look for a returning wet patch — A joint under pressure weeps continuously, not in bursts.
- Look at the filter housing and check when it was last changed — A leak dating from a filter change is a filter seat, every time.

- Dry everything and find out where the water reappears first — The first wet point is the source; mopping blind loses the diagnosis.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water supply off before disturbing any fitting behind the cabinet, and never cut or lever a refrigerant line to make room for a hand.
When to call a technician
Call once you have cleared the drain, confirmed the cabinet is level and dried the area, and water still returns. Call without waiting if water behind the cabinet refills after mopping: pressurised water does not stop on its own. Call immediately if water is reaching an outlet, a plug or any electrical connection — switch the circuit off first.
