An Asko dryer that is not drying may be a heat-pump machine working normally at a low temperature, or a machine whose filter stack and condenser have silted up. Establish which type you have first. On a heat-pump machine the diagnosis is about airflow and condensate; on a conventional condenser machine it also includes the thermal chain.
What the machine is doing
- Clothes damp, drum never feels hot — Normal for a heat-pump machine. Judge by results, not by temperature.
- Cycles that have grown steadily longer — The filter stack or the condenser silting up.
- The machine stopping early with clothes still damp — Sensor drying being defeated by a restricted air path.
- A full water container reported repeatedly — Normal operation; the container is where the moisture goes.
- No warmth at all on a conventional condenser machine — The thermal chain, and that is the vented-style diagnosis.
What is behind it, in order
- Filter stack partly blocked — First on this machine class, and there are usually two or three filters, not one.
- Condenser or heat-exchanger fouled — Second, and it needs regular rinsing or brushing depending on the design.
- Condensate path or container — Third: water that cannot leave stops the cycle.
- Overloading — Fourth, and a genuine cause of apparent under-drying.
- Thermal chain or sealed circuit — Last, and on a heat-pump machine it is specialist work.
Check them in this order
- Establish which type of machine you have — It changes the whole diagnosis, and the manual or the rating plate says.
- Clean every filter, not just the door one — Heat-pump machines have more than one and the deeper ones are forgotten.
- Empty the container and check the condensate route — Water has to go somewhere on every cycle.
- Halve the load and run a full cycle — It separates overloading from a fault at no cost.
What an owner can safely do
- Wash the door filter under a hot tap and let it dry — Water should pass straight through; if it beads, a film is restricting airflow.

- Open the lower access and clean the secondary filters and heat exchanger — Follow the machine's own instructions for its access panel; this is the filter most owners never find.

- Empty the water container and check any plumbed condensate hose — A kinked or raised hose stops drainage and the machine stops with it.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A heat-pump dryer contains a sealed refrigeration circuit: never probe, tap or attempt to open it, and if a technician diagnoses a sealed-circuit fault that is licensed work. Never dry anything contaminated with oil, solvent or wax, because it can ignite after the heat stops even at these lower temperatures.
What is not a homeowner job
Call when every filter is clean, the condensate path is clear, the load is reasonable and the machine still leaves laundry damp. Say which type of machine it is when you book, because heat-pump diagnosis and parts differ from conventional ones. Ask whether the heat exchanger has been checked as part of the visit: it is the component most often missed and the most common genuine cause on this class.
