The finding, first
Water left in the drum is a drain problem, and on these models the filter at the front is where it usually ends. The waste connection is outside the machine entirely and gets blamed last when it should be checked early. Only a pump replacement takes this off the owner list. The part numbers are deliberately left to the table, because they are the one thing that does vary here.
What the machine does
- Draining is very slow rather than absent — A partial restriction — lint in the filter, a kinked hose, a silted waste connection.
- The door will not release at the end — The lock holds while there is water in the drum. That is correct behaviour, not a second fault.
- The machine refills itself while standing idle — Siphoning. The drain hose is too far down the standpipe and the machine is drawing waste back in.
- The cycle stops before the spin, every time — The control checked for drainage, did not get it, and held. Repeatable, which makes it useful.
- The cycle ends with water covering the drum floor — The machine could not empty and will not spin on a full drum. Both symptoms have one cause.

Causes, most likely first on this roster
- Pump filter blocked — First on this roster and not close. The filter exists to catch coins, buttons, lint and hair before they reach the impeller, and it does that job until it is full, at which point it stops the water instead.
- Drain hose kinked, crushed or pushed too far into the standpipe — Second. A hose crushed behind the cabinet restricts the flow; one pushed too deep into the waste makes the machine siphon itself and refill. Both are installation faults rather than failures.
- Object jammed against the pump impeller — Coins and underwires that got past a damaged filter will stop the impeller dead. The signature is a hum with no flow, which distinguishes it cleanly from a dead pump.
- Waste connection or standpipe blocked — Outside the machine, and often shared with a sink. If the sink gurgles or drains slowly on its own, the machine is not the problem and replacing parts will not help.
- Drain pump failed — Last. A pump that is silent when the machine calls for drain is dead or not being told to run, and telling those apart needs a meter at the pump rather than a look at it.
Follow the water out, in this order
- Drain the machine using the hose behind the filter flap — Shallow tray, several fills. It also proves whether water will leave the sump under gravity at all.
- Remove and clear the pump filter — The commonest answer on the page. Look at what comes out — coins say one thing, felted lint says another.
- Check how far the hose goes into the standpipe — Too deep and the machine siphons. The hose should not reach the water in the trap.
What to do before the panel comes off
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Isolate at the breaker before any panel comes off.

When to call a technician
Call when the filter is clear, the hose is unkinked and the machine is silent at the drain stage. That means the pump or its supply, and confirming it needs a meter inside the cabinet.
