A refrigerator should not run permanently through an extension block or a lead run under a door or a carpet: the connections heat under a continuous load and a trapped or crushed lead is a fire risk. If any socket, plug or lead is warm, discoloured or damaged, stop using it and have an electrician look at it.
When to stop and book someone
Call when the socket is proven live, the thermostat is on, no lead is involved and the appliance is still silent. Call an electrician instead if a protective device trips again on reset, or if any part of the supply arrangement is warm or damaged. On an inexpensive compact unit, ask for an estimate before repair work begins, because the economics differ from those of a full-size refrigerator.
