What you observe

Causes, most likely first on the ATUF line
- Freezer not cold enough for a harvest to trigger — Ranked first here: the assembly carries its own thermostat and waits for it, so a compartment that is perfectly adequate for frozen food can still be too warm to release a tray. What to check first, second, third
- Read the bin before touching the machine — Empty and dry, full of one block, hollow cubes, or a sheet of ice under the bin — each of those four states points at a different half of the shortlist for free.
- Check the shut-off arm or paddle position — Look for the wire arm or the paddle and confirm it is in the down or engaged position.
- Listen for the fill valve at the back of the machine — A short buzz on cue with no water arriving separates a supply problem from a control problem.
- Trace the supply line for a kink or a shut valve — Pull the machine out and follow the line back to its valve. A line pinched behind the cabinet when it was last pushed into place is one of the most common finds here.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before it comes off the wall, and remember a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never chip ice out of a mould or a chute with a knife or a screwdriver. The mould carries a heater and the chute carries a flap linkage, and both are easy to puncture; warm water and patience cost nothing and break nothing.

When to call a technician
Call when the fill valve buzzes on cue with a proven supply behind it and nothing arrives, since that is a valve or an inlet screen at a fitting that is under pressure and behind the machine. Anything that only costs comfort can wait for a convenient appointment. Anything that has the cabinet warming, or water on a floor that will not dry, should be looked at the same day.
