The answer first
The Artt ATUF freezer family covers two listings in the roster below, and on that platform whether the compressor is running at all splits the whole diagnosis. Most freezer temperature complaints are airflow, door seal or condenser problems rather than anything to do with the sealed system. Where the cabinet is in an unheated space, very cold surroundings can stop a machine cycling at all, which is a known behaviour rather than a fault.
The observables
- The contents have softened but the machine is clearly running — Cold is being made and not delivered, or not enough of it is being made. Airflow, seal and condenser are the three to work before anything else.
- Heavy frost on the walls or the rear panel — Either the door has been letting humid air in, or a defrost cycle has stopped clearing the coil.
- The compressor runs constantly and never satisfies — A long run is normal in warm weather; a run that never ends means the cabinet cannot reach its setpoint, which is the same fault seen from the machine side.
- NEAR MISS — only part of the load has thawed — Food near the door soft and the rest solid is an air distribution or door problem rather than a machine that has stopped, and it is the better outcome of the two.
Causes, most likely first on the ATUF line
- Door seal, door alignment or a door left ajar — Ranked first here: it is the cheapest cause to rule out and the most under-diagnosed, because a gap that never shows itself while you are looking is open for every hour that you are not, and in a freezer it also builds the frost that causes the next fault on this list. The same label also carries refrigerator listings, so the cabinet and its controls were designed to do more than one job and a fault can sit on the half you are not looking at.
- Airflow restricted by frost or by how the cabinet is packed — Second here, because a freezer packed hard against its air outlets, or coated in frost, cannot move cold to where it is needed, which produces soft food in one part of the cabinet and solid ice in another.
- Condenser blanketed with dust, or no clearance around the cabinet — Third here, because the machine can only move heat as fast as it can dump it, and a freezer pushed into a tight recess in a warm room is being asked to do something it was not designed to do.
- Defrost circuit no longer completing — Fourth here, because it sits behind the frost that it causes: the ice you can see is the symptom, and which part of the circuit stopped is the half of the diagnosis that needs the panel off and a meter.
- Sealed-system or compressor fault — Last here, because nothing in it wears in normal use, and nothing in it can be worked on without gauges and a licence, which is why it ends the owner diagnosis.
The order to work in
- Move the contents and put a thermometer in the cabinet — Food safety is the clock. A freezer holds food safely at 0 °F (−18 °C) or below, and a measured reading is worth more than any impression from a hand.
- Look at the frost pattern inside the cabinet — Frost heaviest near the door points at the seal; frost across a rear panel points at the defrost circuit.
- Pull the cabinet out and clean the condenser — Dust on the coil and no clearance around the case are both visible from behind, and both are owner-serviceable with the machine unplugged.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Refrigerant work is licensed work. If tubing is cut, kinked or showing oil, stop: oil outside the tubing means the system is open, and running the compressor after that point does further damage every hour it runs.

Where the owner side ends
Call immediately if the tubing at the back stays at room temperature while the compressor is plainly running, or if there is oil on the tubing: that is a sealed-system diagnosis and not an owner repair. Keep the door shut while you wait and move what you can to a cooler with ice. A full, closed freezer holds temperature for a surprisingly long time; an opened one does not.
