What you observe

- Water only after the door has been open a long time — Warm humid air condensing on very cold surfaces produces genuine puddles, and it is a consequence of how the cabinet is used rather than a fault in it.
- The seal is damp and frost is heaviest at the door — Warm air is being let in continuously, which produces both frost inside and water at the front, and the two are the same problem.
- NEAR MISS — water with food that is softening — A leak alongside a cabinet that is losing temperature is a cooling and defrost fault presenting twice, and the cooling page resolves both.
Causes, most likely first on the ATUF line
- Defrost drain iced or blocked at its opening — Ranked first here, because every cabinet of this type melts ice on purpose, it all goes down one small opening, and an ice bridge across that opening closes it quietly over a few weeks — which makes it the first suspect on any freezer leak. Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the water is inside or outside the cabinet — Ice in the bottom and water at the front is drainage. Beads on the outside of the case with a dry interior is condensation, and the two need entirely different responses.
- Empty the cabinet and find the drain opening — It is usually at the base of the rear wall. Warm water poured slowly in will either run away or back up, and that answer is the diagnosis.
- Check the seal with a sheet of paper all round — Even resistance everywhere means the seal is doing its job; a point where the paper slides free is a gap that is admitting humid air around the clock.
- Pull the cabinet out and look at the pan and the level — The pan sits above or beside the compressor. Look for a crack, a pan off its mounts, or a tube discharging beside it, and check the cabinet is standing level while you are there.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Standing water in front of a plugged-in appliance is an electrical risk, so dry the floor before working and do not kneel in it. Empty the cabinet before moving it — a loaded freezer on a wet floor is both heavy and unpredictable..

When this stops being an owner job
Call when the drain re-freezes within days of being cleared: that means the defrost circuit is not completing, and clearing it again only buys the same few days. A drain leak can wait a day or two provided the water is contained and mopped, but the ice in the base keeps building until the drain is cleared.
