- Find where the water starts, not where it ends — Dry everything, lay paper towel at the front, at one side and at the back, and wait.
- Look under the crisper drawers and on the freezer floor — Pull the drawers and the lower baskets right out. Water under the crispers or a sheet of ice beneath the baskets is the direct evidence of a blocked drain.
- Pull the machine out and inspect the drain pan — The pan sits above or beside the compressor. Look for a crack, for a pan sitting off its mounts, and for a tube that is discharging beside the pan rather than into it.
