The short answer
An Arctic Wind dryer that stops early is usually being told the load is dry by a moisture sensor coated in softener residue, or is cutting out on thermal protection. A dryer that runs on indefinitely has an airflow restriction and cannot carry the moisture away. Both traces lead back to the lint path more often than to any electronic part.
What you actually see
- Stops after a few minutes with a wet load — Sensor drying misreading, or a thermal device opening early.
- Runs long past the estimated time — Airflow. The machine is working and the moisture is not leaving.
- Stops and will not restart until it has cooled — Thermal protection cycling, which is an airflow fault by another name.
- Cycle completes but the drum never turned — A broken belt. The machine hums and heats and nothing tumbles.
- NEAR MISS: an anti-crease phase after the cycle — Intermittent tumbling for up to an hour afterwards is designed behaviour on many machines.
Causes, most likely first
- Airflow restriction in filter, housing or duct — First, and it explains both the never-ending cycle and most thermal cut-outs.
- Moisture sensor coated with residue — Second, and it is the classic cause of a cycle ending with a damp load.
- Thermal cut-out or thermostat opening — Third, and a consequence of the first rather than a fault in itself, most of the time.
- Broken drive belt — Fourth. Unmistakable once suspected: the motor runs and the drum does not.
- Timer or control fault — Last, and diagnosed only after the airflow path has been proven clear.
What to look at first
- Decide whether it ends early or never ends — Opposite faults, and everything below depends on which one you have.
- Wash the lint filter and check airflow at the vent — It addresses the most common cause of the never-ending case.
- Wipe the sensor bars in the drum — It addresses the most common cause of the early-stop case.
- Open the door mid-cycle and see whether the drum has been turning — It takes a second and it identifies a broken belt outright.

- Run a timed cycle rather than a sensor cycle — It bypasses the moisture sensing entirely. If a timed cycle dries the load, the sensor is your fault.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A dryer that keeps cutting out on temperature is not merely inconvenient: it is running hot in a cabinet that contains lint, and that is the recognised route to a dryer fire. Never dry items contaminated with oil or solvent, and never leave a dryer running unattended overnight while it is behaving like this.
When to stop and book someone
Call when the filter, housing and duct are clean, a timed cycle still fails, and the drum turns, because the heater, the thermostats and the control now need measurement. Call quickly if the machine cuts out hot and restarts cool, since that is the pattern that precedes real damage. Call rather than improvise for a broken belt: the cabinet has to come apart and the drum has to be supported while the belt is routed.
