Before you open anything
A dead panel on an Arctic Wind dryer is usually a supply or door-switch problem, and a machine that lights up but will not run is often reporting an open thermal cut-out from an earlier overheat. That cut-out is itself a symptom of a blocked lint path, which is why a control complaint on a dryer so often ends as an airflow repair.
How this shows up
- Panel dark and nothing responds — Supply or the door circuit. Nothing points at software yet.
- Panel lights but the drum will not turn — Door switch, thermal protection or the motor circuit.
- A repeating flash pattern — A reported condition. Note it before cutting power.
- The machine ran hot, then stopped and will not restart — Classic thermal cut-out. Look at the lint path before anything else.
- NEAR MISS: unresponsive buttons with a lit panel — A child lock. Check the legend before assuming a failure.
Where the fault usually sits
- Supply or plug problems — First. Dryers draw heavily and sit on sockets in utility rooms that see little attention.
- Door switch not making — Second. A dryer door is slammed thousands of times and the switch is a simple mechanical contact.
- Thermal cut-out opened after an overheat — Third, and important because the real fault is airflow rather than electronics.
- Child lock or a mis-set programme — Fourth, free to eliminate, and common.
- Control board failure — Last, and named only after the others are excluded by measurement.
The order to work in, and why
- Check the socket with something you can see working — Fast, and dryers trip sockets more often than other appliances because of the load they draw.
- Open and close the door firmly and retry — It clears a good share of these.
- Ask whether the machine recently ran unusually hot — It points straight at the thermal cut-out and the lint path behind it.
- Look for a lock indicator — Because it is free and it is frequently the whole answer.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never defeat a door switch to make a dryer run with the door open: the drum, the heater and the blower are all exposed and a running drum is unforgiving. If a thermal device has operated, treat it as a warning rather than an inconvenience, because it operated to prevent a fire in a cabinet full of lint.
When to stop and book someone
Call when the supply is proven, the door latches, the lint path is clear and the machine still will not respond, because the thermal devices, the switch and the control now need measurement. Call quickly if the machine has been cutting out when hot, since that pattern is the recognised precursor to a dryer fire. On a gas machine, anything involving the burner or its controls is for a registered gas engineer rather than a general technician.
