The short answer
On the Arctic Wind AUFW refrigerator line, an ice maker that has stopped is worth working through in a set order: the shut-off arm, the ice bin or a control setting first, then a supply that is off, restricted or frozen at the inlet, and only after those does the sealed system enter the picture. What you observe
- The ice maker is silent and the bin is empty — No cycle attempt at all often means the machine has been told there is no room for more.
- No ice at all, and the dispenser gives little or no water either — Ice and water failing together puts the fault on the shared supply rather than in the ice maker.
- NEAR MISS — there is water in the bottom of the freezer — A fill that overshoots or a drain that has frozen is a leak question and has its own page.
Causes, most likely first on the AUFW line
- The shut-off arm, the ice bin or a control setting — Ranked first: the bail arm or optical sensor that stops production when the bin is full is easily left in the off position or blocked by a bag of frozen food leaning on it, and the machine then behaves exactly as designed by making nothing.
- The water supply is off, restricted or frozen at the inlet — The supply side is checked early because a closed valve or a kinked line produces exactly this symptom and costs nothing to rule out.
- A clogged water filter or a failing inlet valve — The filter and the valve remain the answer when the ice maker cycles correctly but the cubes are undersized.
- The ice maker module, its heater or the wiring to it — Last here, and the only cause on this list that is not owner work — a module that will not cycle, a harvest heater that has failed or a broken connection to the freezer harness is replacement work behind a panel, with the power off and the part matched to the cabinet.
Check in this order, and why
- Look at the shut-off arm or sensor window and the seating of the bin — Lift the arm to its down position, clear anything leaning on it and wipe the sensor window. Done first because it separates the likeliest causes before any tool is needed.
- Find the shut-off valve behind or under the cabinet and confirm it is fully open — Second: it confirms or dismisses what the first check suggested.
- Check when the filter was last changed and run the dispenser into a jug — Third, once the two checks above are clean.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, and shut the water off at the supply valve before disconnecting anything — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and the ice maker harness runs alongside water fittings. When to call a technician
