The short version
On the Arctic Wind AUFSS refrigerator line, an ice maker that has stopped is worth working through in a set order: a clogged water filter or a failing inlet valve first, then the shut-off arm, the ice bin or a control setting, and only after those does the sealed system enter the picture. That order is written for a single-model line and sequenced for how these models are put together, which is where it departs from the brand-generic article.
What the machine is doing
- Cubes are small, hollow or misshapen — Correct cycling on insufficient water. The mechanism is working; the water is not arriving.
- The ice maker is silent and the bin is empty — No cycle attempt at all often means the machine has been told there is no room for more.
- NEAR MISS — nothing in the cabinet is properly cold — Then this is a cooling fault and the ice maker is a symptom, not the problem.
What it usually turns out to be, in order on the AUFSS line
- A clogged water filter or a failing inlet valve — Checked first here: a filter left in past its life or an inlet valve that no longer opens fully starves the mould, and the give-away is small hollow cubes rather than none at all — the machine is cycling correctly on too little water.
- The shut-off arm, the ice bin or a control setting — The shut-off arm or sensor is blocked or switched off often enough that it is worth ten seconds before anything else.
- The freezer is not cold enough to harvest — A freezer running a little warm stops the harvest cycle without stopping anything else, which is why the compartment temperature is checked before the mechanism.
- The water supply is off, restricted or frozen at the inlet — The supply is still worth re-checking at the end, because a slow line can mimic every internal fault on this list.
- The ice maker module, its heater or the wiring to it — Last here, and the only cause on this list that is not owner work — a module that will not cycle, a harvest heater that has failed or a broken connection to the freezer harness is replacement work behind a panel, with the power off and the part matched to the cabinet.
The order of checks, and the reason for it
- Check when the filter was last changed and run the dispenser into a jug — A weak or stuttering flow at the dispenser is the same restriction the ice maker is fighting. Done first because it separates the likeliest causes before any tool is needed.
- Look at the shut-off arm or sensor window and the seating of the bin — Second: it confirms or dismisses what the first check suggested.
- Measure the freezer temperature rather than trusting the display — Third, once the two checks above are clean.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water off at the wall valve before touching any fitting, and have a towel ready — the line stays charged after the valve closes. Do not prise ice out of the mould with a screwdriver; the heater element sits directly underneath it.
