Where the water is

- Door seal, door alignment or the door left ajar — Ranked high because it is free to check and because it is also the reason the drain iced in many cases. One cause, two symptoms, and the paper test settles it in seconds.
- Ice maker fill tube or valve dribbling — On this roster the fill path crosses cold space, so a slow dribble freezes before it runs, which is why this fault usually presents as ice first and water second.

Where the owner line is
Call when the timing says drain but clearing it from the cabinet side has not worked, because that usually means ice further down the path where a heater rather than a probe is needed. Call straight away for an oily film in the machine compartment - that is the sealed system, and it is licensed work.
