The short answer
When the Arctic Wind ABMK refrigerator runs continuously and still will not hold temperature, start from the assumption that air is not moving rather than that refrigerant is gone. A stalled defrost or a stopped evaporator fan produces exactly this picture, and both are cheaper than what owners usually fear.
What you see on the ABMK line
- A sheet of frost across the back wall of the freezer side — Not the usual light dusting but a continuous white skin, often thickest at the bottom.
- The freezer side holds while the fresh-food side does not — Cold is still being made; it is not being delivered, which narrows the fault a long way.
- Food on the top shelf spoils first — Warm air stratifies, so the top of the compartment is where a marginal unit shows itself.
- NEAR MISS - the compartment is cold but ice is not being made — An ice maker that has stopped while the cabinet holds temperature is its own fault chain, covered separately.
Ranked for the ABMK line
- Door left ajar, or a gasket that no longer seals — Most likely here: Gasket rubber takes a set where it has been folded or where the door has been slammed, and a gap you cannot see is a gap that never stops feeding the compartment warm air. This family sits inside Arctic Wind's ABM group, whose lines share their numeric cores; an owner who finds a different letter on their data plate will find the same mechanical answer under that letter.
- Thermostat, thermistor or control board reading the compartment wrongly — Second: Electronic controls fail towards a fixed opinion rather than towards silence, which is why a unit with a bad thermistor can run constantly or barely run and both look like a cooling failure.
- Sealed-system fault: a leak, a restriction or a failed compressor — Third: Refrigerant does not get used up, so a low charge means the circuit is open somewhere and closing it is licensed work with tools no household owns.
Check in this order, and why
- First - Close the door on a sheet of paper at several points around the frame — If the paper slides out with no drag anywhere along one edge, the seal is failing at that edge and the rest of the diagnosis waits. That is the order the roster on this page dictates, not a generic sequence.
- Second - Note whether the behaviour is stable day to day — A consistent warm cabinet fits a mechanical cause; behaviour that changes without you changing anything fits the control side.
- Third - Compare compressor warmth against condenser warmth — Compressor working hard with a cold condenser is the sealed-system signature and the point at which the checks stop.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. The door switch that cuts the fan is a safety device and a diagnostic aid at once: leave it wired as it is. If you defrost with a heat source rather than time and patience you will melt the evaporator tray and the liner behind it, and a punctured evaporator turns a small fault into a sealed-system repair.

When to call a technician
Call when the behaviour changes from day to day without you changing anything, which points at the control side rather than the air path, and call at once for any burning smell, any oily film around the compressor, or a cabinet that stays warm after a full manual defrost has been given a proper overnight.
