The version worth reading first
On the Arctic Wind ABMG family most no-ice calls end with nothing replaced. The roster covers one base number, ABMG171E, carried twice in the parts data. A raised shut-off arm, a bin packed hard, a freezer running a few degrees warm and a supply valve never fully opened between them account for the majority, and all four are free to check.
How it presents
- Cubes that are cloudy, slow and stuck together — The mould is filling and freezing too slowly, which is usually a freezer temperature problem rather than an ice maker problem.
- Cubes are fine but there are far fewer of them — The cycle is running and running slowly. That is a freeze-time story, which means temperature or fill volume rather than a failed part.
- NEAR MISS - no ice and the whole cabinet is warm — That is a cooling fault, and the ice maker stopping is a symptom of it. Read the cooling page for this family.
What a technician expects to find
- Shut-off arm or bin sensor reading full — First on this roster and the cheapest finding on the page. A wire arm lifted by a bag of frozen food, or an optical sensor with frost on its window, stops production completely and looks exactly like a failed ice maker from the front.
- Freezer compartment running too warm to make ice — Ranked here because the ice maker will not even begin a cycle until the mould reaches its threshold, so a marginally warm freezer stops production while every package in it stays rock hard.
- Household water supply, saddle valve or filter restriction — On this roster the line enters low at the back, which is exactly where a cabinet pushed into place crimps it. It is a common finding after a kitchen refit and it is free to correct.
- Ice maker module, motor or thermostat failed — Last because it is the most expensive answer on the page and the one least often correct. A module fitted to a cabinet with any fault above it will behave exactly like the one it replaced.
- Body: Ranked by frequency on this roster, free checks first where two causes are close. Against the brand-generic order the household supply moves up, since a saddle valve or a shut-off that was never fully opened produces every symptom on this page and is invisible from the kitchen.
Work through this in order
- Listen for a fill at the end of a harvest — A short buzz and no water, or no buzz at all, separates a valve fault from a module fault without removing anything.
- Confirm the cabinet has a factory ice maker at all — Some listings on a roster like this ship without one, and a hookup kit fitted later behaves differently from a factory installation.
- Body: Follow this in order and check the bin before the appliance. On this roster the shut-off arm, the bin contents and the freezer thermometer between them explain most of what gets reported as a failed ice maker.
Before a fitting is touched
Safety
Close the household water shut-off before touching any fitting, and unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing the module; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A compression fitting loosened while the line is still under pressure will empty into the kitchen faster than you can reseat it.

When this stops being an owner job
The owner line here is the fitting. Checking arms, bins, thermometers, cube shape and a shut-off valve is owner work; loosening a compression fitting on a pressurised line, or replacing an inlet valve, is not unless you are confident about turning the water off and back on again. Call if the freezer itself is running warm, because that is a different repair.
