The short answer

Switch off at the breaker before any panel comes off and before putting a hand into the ice maker housing, because the harvest mechanism moves under power and does not warn you. Close the household shut-off before touching a supply fitting; a line under pressure behind a heavy cabinet is difficult to stop once it starts. Use warm water on an ice plug, never a tool, and keep water away from the supply cord throughout.

When to call a technician
