The short answer
Most countertop machines refuse to start without enough water in the tank and without the door latched, and both are checked in a minute. Look for any light on the panel first: lit means it is refusing, dark means start at the socket.
What you actually see and hear
- The panel lights but the cycle never begins — It has power and is declining. Water level or the door.
- Completely dark — Socket, plug or breaker.
- It beeps or flashes when you press start — Reporting a condition, most often a low tank.
- It starts only when the lid is pressed down — The latch or its switch.
- NEAR MISS - it starts and then stops part-way — That is a cycle fault and a different question.
Causes, most likely first on this machine
- Tank not filled, or filled below the minimum — First on a tank-fill machine. Most will not begin a cycle they cannot complete, and that reads as a dead machine.
- Door or lid latch not made — Second. A small latch on a light door wears quickly and stops making its switch while still looking shut.
- Socket, plug or breaker — Third. The machine is plugged in and unplugged regularly, which is why this is worth checking even when it seems obvious.
- Control lock or delay start — Fourth, and free to rule out. Flush touch panels are easy to set by accident while wiping a worktop.
- Control board or a thermal device — Last. It is what remains after four checks that take a minute each.
Check in this order, and why
- Look for any light or tone — Lit or dark splits the ranking immediately.
- Check the tank level against the minimum mark — The most common single cause on this class.
- Press the door or lid firmly closed and try again — A latch that needs help has named its own fault.
- Look for a lock symbol or a delay indicator — Both are easy to set without meaning to.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel - a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A countertop dishwasher puts a live appliance and an open water tank on the same worktop, so keep the plug and the socket away from the fill opening and wipe spills immediately. Let a hot cycle cool before reaching into the tub, and never carry the machine with water still in the tank.
When to call a technician
Contact the supplier when the tank is full, the socket is proven live, the door latches firmly and no lock or delay is set, and the machine still will not begin. On an appliance of this price that is usually a warranty question rather than an independent repair. Call an electrician instead if the socket tests dead with something else plugged in, and stop immediately if a breaker trips again when reset.
