Gas safety, before anything else
Safety
If you smell gas: do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or emergency services from outside. Do not look for the leak yourself. For any other work, switch the appliance off at its breaker and close the gas tap at the appliance before removing a panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never modify a burner orifice, an air shutter or a safety valve, and never run a burner with a cap or cover removed.
When to call a technician
Owner work on the ARSCT line is cleaning and reseating only. Orifices, shutters, valves and igniters are qualified work whoever can reach them, and a smell of gas means leaving and calling from outside.
