Gas safety, before anything else
Safety
If you smell gas: do not switch anything on or off, leave the building, and call the gas utility or emergency services from outside. Do not look for the leak yourself. Otherwise, switch the appliance off at its breaker and close the appliance gas tap before a panel comes off — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Never alter an orifice, an air shutter or a safety valve, and never run a burner with its cap removed.
