What this usually is
This fault reads the same on every make, but it does not rank the same. On the H models it is usually a lid switch or door lock not confirming. The models here are one machine in several finishes rather than several machines, so the design-inherent causes rank first and the installation causes fall back.
What the owner actually sees
- The display sits at the same time reading for an hour — Nothing moves, nothing faults, and the machine gives no indication of trouble.
- Water is still standing in the drum at the stall — Which places the problem on the drain side before anything else is checked.
- The drum fills, tumbles briefly, and tries again in a loop — The same twenty seconds repeating, which is a redistribution routine rather than a fault.
- NEAR MISS — the cycle finishes normally but the clothes are not clean — That is a wash-quality question and a different page.
What it usually turns out to be, in order on the H line
- A lid switch or door lock not confirming — Ranked first here — the machine will not advance past a step it cannot prove is safe, and it often does so silently.
- Level sensing that has lost its reference — Second here — it makes the machine believe the drum state is something it is not, which stalls fill and drain alike.
- A cycle or option that is doing exactly what it was asked — Third here — it must be eliminated before anything is opened — a long cycle is not a stalled one.
- Body: These are finish variants of a single build, so a fault found on one of them will be found on the rest, and the order reflects that rather than hedging. On this set the ordering survives the build unchanged, which is worth knowing before you spend time on the least likely of them.
What to look at first, second, third
- Open and shut the door firmly and listen for the lock — A click you can hear each time is the lock working.
- Note whether the machine stalls with the drum obviously fuller or emptier than the step needs — A mismatch between what you can see and what the machine is doing points at what measures the level.
- Read the cycle time the machine is showing, and the options selected — Pre-wash, soak, extra rinse and anti-crease all add time that looks like a hang.
- Body: These are finish variants of one machine, so access is identical across the line and the order below is purely about likelihood rather than about what is easiest to reach. Work them in order: each one clears the cause it sits beside, and the next is only worth doing once the one before it is clean.
Switch it off first

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Before opening a pump filter on a stalled machine, shut both taps and put a tray and towels down: there may be a full drum behind it. Never force a locked door while water is still in the drum, and never defeat a lid switch to make a machine run with the lid open.

Where owner work stops
Call when the machine stalls at the same step after the taps, the filter, the dose and the load have all been dealt with, or when the door will not release on a drained drum. Stop and call at once if a breaker trips when the machine reaches the stall point.
