The short answer
An empty ice bin on the AZC line is a supply symptom far more often than a mechanical one. The matrix on this page is the definitive list for this family: three model numbers. Water has to arrive, the tray has to freeze through on schedule, and only then does the module matter — and the first two are checkable from the front of the cabinet.
What the owner notices
- No ice at all and a full water line — A dispenser that pours water while the bin stays empty rules out the inlet valve and the supply line in one test.
- Hollow, undersized or cloudy cubes — Cubes that look the right shape and weigh almost nothing, because the tray was harvested before it filled.
- Cubes fused into one solid block in the bin — Partial thawing and refreezing, usually from a freezer that is not holding temperature or a door that is not sealing.
- The shut-off arm or sensor is holding the cycle off — The mechanism reads the bin as full, and it will keep doing so until the arm is freed or the sensor window cleared.
- Water pooling under the bin or freezing in the fill tube — A plug of ice in the fill tube that grows a little with every cycle until nothing gets through at all.
- NEAR MISS — the whole freezer is soft and the cabinet is warm — Ice production stops long before food thaws, so a warm cabinet makes the cooling fault primary.
Causes, most likely first on the AZC line
- Freezer temperature too high to finish a cycle — First here: the matrix on this page covers only a handful of closely related models and across that whole span the harvest is gated on temperature, so a cabinet a few degrees warm stops making ice while still keeping food frozen.
- Water supply restricted at the valve, line or filter — Second, and it is the cause that explains cubes getting steadily smaller rather than stopping all at once.
- Fill tube frozen or the shut-off arm held up — Third. They look like a dead module from the front, and neither needs a part.
- Inlet valve or ice maker module failure — Last: the actual component failures, reached once the three states above are cleared.
Check in this order, and why
- Put a thermometer in the freezer and leave it overnight — Production stops on temperature long before food thaws, which is why this cause is missed so often.
- Check the door seals and whether the bin blocks the door — A freezer that cannot hold temperature usually has a reason at the door before it has one in the cooling system.
- Press the dispenser to confirm water is arriving — With temperature accounted for, the supply is the next thing that must be true.
- Inspect the fill tube and the shut-off arm — Inspect the fill tube and the shut-off arm last: they need the bin removed and they are where an adjustment becomes a repair.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before working on the ice maker; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not chip ice out of the tray or the rake with a knife or a screwdriver — the tray cracks, and what is behind it is not repairable at home.

The service-call line
Call once the filter, the supply valve, the shut-off arm and the freezer temperature are all clean and the bin is still empty. On the AZC line the owner side ends where a water joint has to be broken, because a badly seated connection turns an ice fault into a floor repair.
