The short answer
When the ARTX refrigerators stops making ice, the fault is usually in front of the maker rather than inside it. On these models a fill valve that is not opening is the first thing this page would have you rule out. None of the causes below needs a technician to rule out — only the repair might.

Causes, most likely first on this family
- Water inlet valve not opening — Low supply pressure produces the same complaint as a failed valve, so the supply is worth proving before the part is blamed. Ranked first here: the commonest of the four on this family. One design carries every cabinet size in this family, so it holds across the line.
- Fill tube frozen at the mould — A fill that overshoots leaves water standing in the tube where it freezes, and the next fill backs up behind the plug. Second, because it produces almost the same complaint from a different part.
- Freezer not cold enough to start a harvest — This is why an ice complaint is so often a cooling complaint, and why a thermometer belongs in the freezer before anything is ordered. Third, because the two above account for most of what arrives with this complaint.
- Water filter restricted or not seated — Cube size is the useful signal: a partial restriction gives hollow or half-filled cubes rather than none at all. Last on this page: real, but uncommon on these cabinets.
- Body: The departure here is airflow, up: one design stretched across several cabinet sizes asks most of the air path in the biggest of them, so airflow faults lead on this family.
Check in this order, and why
- Watch a fill: a valve that opens buzzes for a few seconds, and you should be able to hear it. — It leads: the ranking puts this cause first, so its check goes first too.
- Look at the point where the fill tube enters the mould for a plug of ice. — It sits here because it rules a cause in rather than out, which saves a step later.
- Leave a thermometer in the freezer overnight and read it before the door is opened. — Last, because it confirms what the checks above have already narrowed.
Power down first, then work

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel, because a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Nothing on the sealed system is owner work; those lines are under pressure. Shut the water supply off before disturbing the valve or the fill line, and never thaw a fill tube with a flame or a heat gun.
