The short answer
When the ABB refrigerators stops making ice, the fault is usually in front of the maker rather than inside it. Causes, most likely first on this family
- Water inlet valve not opening — Low supply pressure produces the same complaint as a failed valve, so the supply is worth proving before the part is blamed. Ranked first here: the commonest of the four on this family. The masked positions are trim rather than mechanism, so it holds across the line.
- Fill tube frozen at the mould — A fill that overshoots leaves water standing in the tube where it freezes, and the next fill backs up behind the plug. Second, because it produces almost the same complaint from a different part.
- Supply line kinked or the shut-off barely open — A saddle valve that was only ever cracked open passes enough water for a glass and not enough for a fill cycle. Third, because the two above account for most of what arrives with this complaint.
- Freezer not cold enough to start a harvest — A freezer door left even slightly ajar holds the compartment above the point where a harvest starts. Last on this page: real, but uncommon on these cabinets.

Check in this order, and why

Cut the power before anything else

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A loaded cabinet is heavy and top-heavy with the doors open, so empty it and get help before moving it. Shut the water supply off before disturbing the valve or the fill line, and never thaw a fill tube with a flame or a heat gun.
