What this means on these models
An Amana AQC that makes no ice, or makes hollow and undersized cubes, is telling you about water flow and freezer temperature before it tells you about the ice maker itself. The matrix on this page is the definitive list for this family: sixteen model numbers. Both of those are checkable from the front of the cabinet, which is why they rank above the module.
What you observe at the dispenser and the bin
- Hollow, undersized or cloudy cubes — Short fill or slow fill produces cubes that look right in outline and are light in the hand.
- Cubes fused into one solid block in the bin — A block rather than loose cubes means the bin warms between cycles, which is a temperature question, not an ice-maker one.
- The shut-off arm or sensor is holding the cycle off — A wire arm lifted by a stray cube, or an optical sensor with frost across it, stops production with nothing actually broken.
- Water pooling under the bin or freezing in the fill tube — A plug of ice in the fill tube that grows a little with every cycle until nothing gets through at all.
- NEAR MISS — the whole freezer is soft and the cabinet is warm — Ice production stops long before food thaws, so a warm cabinet makes the cooling fault primary.
Causes, most likely first on the AQC line
- Freezer temperature too high to finish a cycle — Ranked first on the AQC line because the matrix on this page spans sixteen model numbers across several production runs — ice production is the first thing a freezer gives up when it runs warm, so it is the earliest symptom of a temperature problem rather than a fault of its own.
- Water supply restricted at the valve, line or filter — Second because a filter at the end of its life or a supply valve knocked half closed starves the fill gradually, so cubes shrink before they stop.
- Fill tube frozen or the shut-off arm held up — Third: both are states rather than failures — the tube can be thawed and the arm can be freed, and production resumes.
- Inlet valve or ice maker module failure — Fourth because the inlet valve and the module are the only items here that end in a replacement, and they are the least likely of the four.
What to check first, second, third
- Measure the freezer temperature with a thermometer — First because production stops on temperature long before food thaws, so a warm freezer is both the commonest cause and the easiest to miss.
- Check the door seals and whether the bin blocks the door — A freezer that cannot hold temperature usually has a reason at the door before it has one in the cooling system.
- Press the dispenser to confirm water is arriving — With temperature accounted for, the supply is the next thing that must be true.
- Inspect the fill tube and the shut-off arm — Inspect the fill tube and the shut-off arm last: they need the bin removed and they are where an adjustment becomes a repair.

Safety
Switch the appliance off at the breaker or unplug it before working on the module; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Shut the water off at the household valve first, and keep a towel under the connection — the line stays pressurised after the appliance is dead. Do not chip ice out of the tray or the rake with anything metal.

The service-call line
The line here is water. Checking the filter, the supply valve, the arm and the temperature are owner jobs on these models. Anything that involves disconnecting the inlet valve, replacing a fill tube or opening the freezer liner is a service call, because a badly seated water connection turns an ice fault into a floor repair.
