The short answer
On the AED dryer this symptom is usually the vent, because a dryer that cannot exhaust cannot dry, and on this platform a restricted duct is what takes the heat out long before any part fails. The AED family is a single model number, so the parts list behind every check below is unambiguous.
What you observe
- The drum turns normally and nothing ever gets warm — Tumble without heat splits the list immediately: the mechanical side is fine and the heat circuit is not.
- Clothes come out damp after a full cycle — Often airflow rather than heat, because wet air that cannot leave takes the moisture straight back.
- Heat at the start of a cycle and none later — Protection opening as the machine warms, which points backwards at airflow.
- The cycle finishes in a few minutes with the load still wet — Sensing rather than heating, and a timed cycle will prove it.
- NEAR MISS — the drum does not turn at all — No tumble is a belt, motor or switch fault and belongs on the will-not-start page rather than this one.
Causes, most likely first on the AED family
- Blocked or restricted exhaust venting — First on this family. It also causes most of the part failures below it on this list, which is why fixing a part without clearing the vent simply buys another part.
- Heat source itself: element or ignition system — Second on these models. An electric element opens at the point where it runs hottest, and a gas machine loses heat when the igniter weakens or the valve stops opening; either way the machine tumbles and stays cold.
- Cycling thermostat stuck open — Third. It is under-suspected because it produces no noise, no smell and no error.
- High-limit thermostat tripped — Last of the four, and the one to reach for only when the others are clean. Like the fuse, it is protection acting rather than a part dying, and it points backwards at airflow every time.
- Body: A brand-generic article on this symptom starts with the blocked or restricted exhaust, and so does this one.
Check in this order, and why
- Disconnect the duct at the machine and run a short cycle — Strong warm airflow at the outlet with the duct off, and little at the wall with it on, names the duct rather than the dryer.
- Watch the machine from cold through the first minutes of a timed hot cycle — On a gas machine an igniter that glows without a flame is conclusive.
- Feel whether the exhaust air ever warms at any point in a long cycle — Air that never warms even once points here or at the heat source; air that gets too hot points at the same part failing the other way.

Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.

When to call a technician
Call once the duct is proven clear and the machine still will not heat, because everything after that is behind a panel. Call rather than replace a thermal fuse a second time: a fuse that opens twice is reporting a cause that has not been found.
