The short answer first

- Note whether the drum turns normally while producing no heat at all — Tumble without heat is the fingerprint, and it separates this from anything that stops the machine outright.
- Feel whether the exhaust air ever warms at any point in a long cycle — Air that never warms even once points here or at the heat source; air that gets too hot points at the same part failing the other way.
- Note whether heat is present at the start of a cycle and gone later — Early heat that disappears is a limit opening as the machine warms, which is different from no heat at all.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A standard household branch circuit is fifteen or twenty amps at one hundred and twenty volts, while an electric dryer circuit is typically thirty amps or more at two hundred and forty.
