The short answer
On a TAW refrigerator, a water leak is most often a drain that is doing its job in the wrong place: the plug or the drain path is open when it should be shut, or blocked when it should be clear. The causes below are in likelihood order, cheapest first; working down that order costs less than starting with the part that sounds most alarming.
What you actually observe
- The floor is wet only after the unit has been switched off for a while — Everything frozen inside has thawed, and there was more water in the plate frost than anyone expected.
- The outside of the cabinet is beaded with moisture — Condensation from humid air meeting a cold shell; not a leak at all in most cases.
- Water runs from the lid line when the lid is opened — Condensate collecting in the seal channel, which is usually a seal or a levelling problem.
- Water is dripping while the unit is cold and untouched — NEAR MISS: worth checking the contents and any container inside before treating the cabinet as the source.
- Body: No two TAW listings share a base number, so each one in the table is a distinct machine rather than a revision of its neighbour.
Ranked causes on these TAW models
- 1. Condensation from warm, humid air — This cause is seasonal: the same unit is dry in a cool dry room and wet in a humid one, with nothing having changed in between. Seals rank high on TAW because the opening grows with each step of the roster while the gasket section stays the same, which puts the longest seal under the most work.
- 2. Meltwater collecting in the cabinet floor — Every cooling cycle leaves water somewhere. Second on TAW, because the cause above it is found without tools and this one needs the cabinet empty first.
- 3. The unit not sitting level — In a vehicle or on a boat this is the usual answer, because the floor is rarely flat and the slope changes with the load.
- 4. The drain that cannot clear — Crumbs, a label or a wad of packaging over the drain hole is enough to hold the water in the floor. The unit keeps making meltwater, the floor keeps filling, and eventually it goes over the edge.
Check in this order on the TAW platform
- 1. Note whether the water is on the cold side or the warm side — Beads on the outside shell are condensation, not a leak, and that changes everything that follows.
- 2. Empty it and look at the drain plug in the cabinet floor — Settles the commonest cause in a minute and with no tools.
- 3. Put a level across the cabinet, loaded as it normally sits — Water finds the drain only on a level floor, so this is checked before the drain is blamed.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the unit before anything else. Unplug it or switch off its breaker, treat a capacitor as charged after the power is off, and get the cabinet and its lead dry before restoring power. A wet socket on a vehicle circuit is a fire risk long before it is a fridge fault.

When to call a technician
Call when the water is repeatable from the same spot after the drain, the level and the seal are all clean, or whenever it comes from behind the liner. A cracked liner and a leaking sealed system are both outside owner work.
