The short answer
On a TAW refrigerator, an ice-making fault is most often the supply cutting the compressor short: freezing is the last duty a small compressor gets to, so it is the first duty lost when the controller keeps stopping it. The causes below are in likelihood order, cheapest first; working down that order costs less than starting with the part that sounds most alarming.
What you actually observe
- Ice forms only on one side of the compartment — Contact and airflow: what touches the plate freezes, what does not, will not.
- Frost coats the plate but the contents stay soft — Frost is an insulator; the cold is trapped on the plate instead of reaching what sits beside it.
- It freezes on mains power but not from the vehicle socket — A supply difference, not an appliance difference.
- The whole box is warm and nothing is cold at all — NEAR MISS: that is a cooling failure, and the not-cooling page is the better read of it.
- Body: No two TAW listings share a base number, so each one in the table is a distinct machine rather than a revision of its neighbour.
Ranked causes on these TAW models
- 1. The set point and the operating mode — Before anything is suspected, the set point has to be low enough to freeze and the mode has to allow the compressor to reach it. Most reports of no ice end here. It ranks high on TAW because the three listings differ in capacity, so the same habit that suits TAW35 overloads nothing and the same habit at TAW55 matters more.
- 2. The conditions it is being asked to work in — Freezing takes far more out of a small compressor than chilling does, and every degree of ambient heat takes capacity away from it. Second here because it costs nothing to ask, while the cause above it explains more of what owners report on TAW.
- 3. Frost on the plate acting as insulation — This is the cause that gets worse the longer it is ignored, and the only one on the list that clears itself completely with a defrost and a dry cloth.
- 4. Where things sit inside the box — Freezing happens against the plate. Two identical bottles, one touching the plate and one not, behave nothing alike.
Check in this order on the TAW platform
- 1. Read the set point and the mode on the panel — Costs nothing and settles the most common cause before any hardware is suspected.
- 2. Move it out of direct sun and away from anything warm — Ambient heat is capacity, and capacity is what freezing duty runs out of first.
- 3. Empty it and look at the plate — A coated plate has to be cleared before any other reading means anything.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate first: unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before any panel comes off, and treat a capacitor as charged after the power is gone. Ice comes off with time and a cloth, never with a blade, because what is directly behind the frost is refrigerant tubing. With three listings in the TAW table, quote the full model number when ordering anything: the differences between them are exactly the differences that matter to a parts counter.

When to call a technician
Call when the set point, the supply, the frost and the seal are all clean and the compartment still will not freeze. That combination has run out of owner checks, and what remains is the compressor module or the sealed system.
