The short answer
A water leak on an RTW refrigerator usually comes down to humid air condensing where it meets a cold surface, which makes the outside of the cabinet as likely a source as the inside. The order that follows puts the likeliest and cheapest causes first, and it is the order worth working in rather than starting with the part that sounds most serious.
What you actually observe
- A puddle collects inside the compartment under the contents — Defrost water that has not reached the drain, or has reached a drain that is closed.
- Water runs from the lid line when the lid is opened — Condensate collecting in the seal channel, which is usually a seal or a levelling problem.
- Water appears under the unit after it has been moved — Classic pooled meltwater tipping out of the cabinet floor rather than a leaking component.
- Water is dripping while the unit is cold and untouched — NEAR MISS: worth checking the contents and any container inside before treating the cabinet as the source.
- Body: No two RTW listings share a base number, so each one in the table is a distinct machine rather than a revision of its neighbour.
What causes it on the RTW platform, in likelihood order
- 1. Condensation from warm, humid air — This cause is seasonal: the same unit is dry in a cool dry room and wet in a humid one, with nothing having changed in between. Seals rank high on RTW because the two listings share an opening design, so the same gasket wear pattern turns up on both.
- 2. The drain that cannot clear — Crumbs, a label or a wad of packaging over the drain hole is enough to hold the water in the floor. The unit keeps making meltwater, the floor keeps filling, and eventually it goes over the edge. Second on RTW, because the cause above it is found without tools and this one needs the cabinet empty first.
- 3. A damaged or deformed lid gasket — Run a finger along the seal looking for flat spots and cuts.
- 4. A cabinet on a slope — The drain sits at one point in the floor, and water only finds it if the cabinet is level. In a vehicle or on a boat this is the usual answer, because the floor is rarely flat and the slope changes with the load.
The order to work in on this platform
- 1. Note whether the water is on the cold side or the warm side — Beads on the outside shell are condensation, not a leak, and that changes everything that follows.
- 2. Clear the drain hole and pour a little water in to watch it go — A direct test of the drain path with nothing dismantled.
- 3. Run a finger and a sheet of paper along the whole gasket — Finds the flat spot that explains a repeatable wet patch.

Isolate the unit before anything else. Unplug it or switch off its breaker, treat a capacitor as charged after the power is off, and get the cabinet and its lead dry before restoring power. A wet socket on a vehicle circuit is a fire risk long before it is a fridge fault.

When to call a technician
