The short answer
A leaking Allavino cabinet is nearly always a drainage problem rather than a supply problem. Every refrigerator makes water on purpose during defrost, and the fault is in where that water goes once the drain path is blocked or displaced. On a beverage cabinet held at cellar temperature, with a sealed system sized for a narrow band rather than for deep cold, start at the drain.
What you are actually seeing
- Water pools under the crisper drawers — The signature of a blocked defrost drain: meltwater backing up inside the cabinet before it ever reaches the floor.
- A puddle appears on the floor at the front — Usually the same fault one stage later, or a cabinet tilted forward so the channel drains the wrong way.
- Ice forms on the freezer floor in a thin sheet — Meltwater refreezing where it stands because the drain below it is blocked.
- A clean, steady drip at the back with no frost anywhere — That reads as supply water — a fitting, a filter housing or a valve — rather than condensate.
- Not this fault: sweating on the outside of the door — That is humidity condensing on a cold surface, usually a seal or a humid room, and it belongs on the door and seal page.
- Not this fault: a wet floor around a nearby appliance — Dishwashers and washing machines leak into the same corner of a kitchen. Dry the floor completely and watch which appliance wets it again.
Causes, most likely first on this machine
- A blocked or frozen defrost drain — First, and by a wide margin: the path is narrow by design, it collects debris, and once an ice plug forms at its top end every defrost cycle adds more water to a pool with nowhere to go.
- The cabinet is not level, or the drain pan is out of position — Second: a small tilt sends meltwater past the channel instead of into it, and a pan knocked askew when the cabinet was last moved does the same.
- A supply fitting, filter housing or fill valve weeping — Third on a plumbed cabinet, and first if the water is clean and the cabinet carries no frost. These leaks are slow, steady and independent of the defrost cycle.
- A door seal letting warm humid air in — Fourth: the air condenses on cold surfaces and the water runs. Here the leak is a symptom and the seal is the fault.
- A cracked drain pan or a split drain tube — Fifth: less common, and usually found only after the drain has been cleared and the floor is still wet.
- An overwhelmed evaporation tray in a humid room — Last, though worth raising early on a compact cabinet: the tray is small, the room is humid, and it cannot evaporate what arrives.
Check in this order, and why
- Decide whether the water is clean or not — Clean, steady and unrelated to the defrost cycle points at supply. Anything else points at the drain, and the two lead to entirely different repairs.
- Look under the crisper drawers and at the freezer floor — Water or ice inside the cabinet confirms drainage before you look at the floor again.
- Put a level on the top of the cabinet — Quick, free, and it explains a stubborn leak that keeps returning after every cleaning.
- Find and clear the drain opening — Only after the three checks above, because clearing a drain that was never blocked tells you nothing.
- Check the pan and the tube last — These need the cabinet moved out, which is the point at which many people should stop and call.
What an owner can safely check
- Dry everything and lay paper down — You want to know where the next water appears and when. A wet floor with no timeline is why this fault gets misdiagnosed.

- Level the cabinet front to back and side to side — Adjust the feet or rollers a quarter turn at a time and re-check. A cabinet that rocks is not level, whatever the bubble says.

- Clear the defrost drain opening gently — Warm water flushed through the channel, and nothing stiff pushed down the tube. Metal wire splits the tube and turns a cleaning job into a parts job.

- Stop here if the cabinet must come apart or come out — Pulling a full cabinet out on hard flooring, or taking the rear panel off, is where an owner check ends — one damages floors and the other exposes live terminals.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water plus mains is what makes this fault worth respecting: dry the area before you work in it, and never reach behind a plugged-in cabinet standing in water. Shut the supply off before touching a fitting. Do not push metal wire down a drain tube, and do not move a loaded cabinet alone — a full refrigerator is a heavy-appliance move, and it damages floors and backs in equal measure.
When to call a technician
Call when the water is clean supply water, because that is a fitting under pressure and it will not improve on its own. Call when the drain has been cleared and the leak returns within a week, which means the blockage is inside the tube or up at the evaporator rather than at the opening. Call as well once the leak has reached electrics, cabinetry or flooring — at that point the leak is no longer the most expensive part of the problem.
