The short answer
Before anything is opened on a AIRMSEN machine, check the three things that stop a healthy dishwasher: a latch that does not engage, a power supply hidden in the cabinet, and a lock or delay left set. On a compact or countertop machine with a small sump, a single pump and a short hose run, which fails differently from a built-in, those explain most no-start calls.
What you are actually seeing
- The panel is lit but nothing happens on start — The machine is awake and declining: latch, fill or a lock setting.
- Nothing at all: no lights, no sound — Supply. Look for a switched spur, a cabinet outlet or a tripped breaker.
- It hums briefly and stops — Asking for water and not getting it, or a pump that cannot turn.
- The door latches but the machine behaves as if it is open — The latch switch rather than the latch: a very common and inexpensive fault.
- It starts only after being left for an hour — A thermal or timed state clearing itself, which usually points at a control rather than the door.
- Not this fault: it starts and stalls partway — That is a cycle fault, and it has its own page and first checks.
Causes, most likely first on this machine
- The door latch not operating its switch — First: mechanical wear on the part used at every cycle, and it produces a machine that appears shut and is not, as far as the control is concerned.
- Power not reaching the machine — Second: a switched outlet, a shared circuit or a plug pushed loose behind the machine.
- A control lock, child lock or delay start — Third: free to clear, common, and it makes a working machine look dead.
- The water supply valve closed — Fourth: or, on a tank-filled machine, a tank that is empty.
- A state left by an abnormal end to the last cycle — Fifth: a genuine power cycle at the breaker clears a surprising number of these.
- The control board or the door switch assembly — Last: by elimination, and the parts that need a meter.
Check in this order, and why
- Close the door firmly and listen — A positive latch sound, then a response from the control. No response points straight at the switch.
- Find and prove the supply — Check the outlet with something else, and check that the plug is fully home.
- Check for a lock indicator or a delay setting — Hold the lock-capable button for several seconds and try again.
- Confirm the supply valve is open — Or that the tank is filled, on a machine that works that way.
- Power cycle at the breaker before suspecting the board — Free, quick, and it clears states that look like hardware faults.
What an owner can safely check
- Open and close the door and press start again — Lift slightly as you close: a door that has dropped will latch mechanically without operating the switch.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel or the door trim — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door latch and its switch exactly as you found them: the machine holds hot water and the latch is what keeps the door shut while it does. Never work on a machine standing in water, and close the supply valve before touching any fitting. On a built-in, isolate at the spur or the breaker rather than pulling the machine out with its plumbing connected.
When to call a technician
Call when the latch, the supply, the lock settings and the water valve have all been ruled out, because the remaining suspects are the switch assembly and the control, both at line potential in a wet cabinet. Call sooner if the machine trips a breaker when start is pressed, if there is any smell of hot insulation, or if the door will not latch at all — a door that no longer holds is a scald risk as well as a no-start.
