The short answer
Water from a portable AcoPower is meltwater that cannot drain. Stand the unit level and check whether the drain is plugged or blocked — that settles most cases. Condensation on the outside in humid air is next and is not a fault. A thick frost build-up melting all at once is third. A genuine seal or cabinet failure is rare on this class.
What you observe
- Water pooling in one corner inside the box — The unit is not level and the drain is at the high side.
- Water appears in the vehicle but never at home — A sloped load floor, not a fault.
- The outside of the cabinet is beaded with moisture — Condensation in humid air. Normal.
- A flood after the unit has been switched off — Accumulated frost melting all at once.
- NEAR MISS — damp only under the lid seal — The lid was left ajar and warm air condensed inside.
Causes, most likely first on this class
- Unit not level, so the drain cannot reach the water — First because a portable rarely stands on anything flat. Tilt moves the pool away from the drain and toward a seam or the lid seal, and nothing is broken.
- Drain plugged or blocked with debris — Second: many units ship with the plug fitted and owners never find it. Meltwater then simply accumulates until it escapes somewhere else.
- Condensation on the cabinet in humid air — Third, and not a fault at all. A cold surface in a damp vehicle or a humid coast will bead, and that water wets whatever the unit stands on.
- Frost build-up melting, or a lid seal failure — Last. A thick plate defrosting releases more water at once than the drain can carry; a genuinely failed seal or cabinet is uncommon here.

- Stand the unit on a level surface and watch it — Free, and it explains most vehicle-only leaks.
- Find the drain and check whether it is plugged — The second cause and an owner fix with no tools.
- Decide whether the water is inside or outside — Outside means condensation, and a different answer.
- Look at how much frost is on the plate — Left until here because it only explains sudden floods.

Before you open anything
Safety
Disconnect the unit from both supplies before reaching into the base or opening a panel; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and water in a vehicle can reach wiring you cannot see. Never chip frost from the plate with a blade — the evaporator is thin and a puncture releases refrigerant under pressure. Dry the load floor fully, because trapped water rots trim and corrodes connectors.
When to call a technician
Call when the unit is level, the drain is clear, the frost is gone and water still escapes the cabinet — that points to a seal or a cabinet breach, and on a unit this size it is worth asking about replacement in the same conversation. Call an auto electrician if water has reached vehicle wiring. Stop using it and disconnect if water has run onto the supply lead or a socket.
