The short answer for the PR models
On the Absocold PR refrigerator models, water where it should not be leads somewhere the brand-generic article does not put first — an ice maker filling too long. The brand-generic ordering opens instead with this: a blocked defrost drain. It moves down behind the lead here, because this family is a short run on a common stem, so its behaviour is consistent in a way the brand as a whole is not.
What you observe on these models
- A puddle at the back of the cabinet, on the outside — That is the drain pan overflowing or the pan itself, and it is a different half of the same story.
- Damp and mould in the cupboard or the recess around it — A slow leak into joinery shows as swelling and smell long before anyone sees water.
- Water pooled under the bottom drawer — The classic signature of a drain that is not draining; the water backs up at the lowest point inside.
- NEAR MISS — water only when the door has been left open — That is condensation from the room, not a leak, and the fix is the door habit.
Causes, most likely first on the PR family
- An ice maker filling too long — An overfill freezes where it lands and then melts wherever the cabinet is warmest, so the water appears a long way from its source. Ranked first on the PR models.
- A blocked defrost drain — Melt water from every defrost cycle has to run down a small channel and through a narrow tube. Second.
- Melt water from a partial or manual defrost — A compact cabinet often sheds its melt into a shallow channel and a small pan rather than into the large drain of a full-size unit. Third.
- A cracked channel, a split tube or a failed liner — It is real, it needs the cabinet stripped to confirm, and every other cause here is cheaper and more common. Last, and that is the point of the order.
- Body: The spine for the PR family records 7 model codes built on a common stem — a short run rather than a long one, which is why a single ordering covers all of them. Where this departs from the brand-generic ordering: the cause that moves up on these models is this one — an ice maker filling too long — and the brand-generic lead moves down behind it.
Check in this order on the PR models, and why
- Check the cabinet is standing square and has room behind it — First: On a compact unit the drain channel has almost no fall, so a cabinet tilted forward or jammed back against the wall is both the commonest cause and the cheapest fix.
- Clear the drawers out and look for the drain hole at the back of the compartment — Second: A visible plug of ice or debris in it is a diagnosis, not a clue.
- Watch whether the water arrives on a rhythm — Third: Water every few hours follows the defrost cycle; water continuously does not, and that separates drain faults from supply faults.

Safety
Unplug the cabinet or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off and the fan can start without warning. The sealed system is not owner work: refrigerant is under pressure and the tubing is thin. While the cabinet is warm, a refrigerator holds food safely at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 4 degrees Celsius, or below.

When to call a technician
Call when the drain has been cleared from inside and still backs up, when the water is coming from a fitting or a tube rather than from the channel, or when you can see water inside the cabinet walls rather than on them. Call immediately if water is reaching an outlet, a cord or the joinery structure around the cabinet — a wet electrical connection is not something to work around while you try one more thing. On the PR models the line sits where the check stops being one you can make from outside the cabinet. Book with the recess in mind: if the cabinet has to come out of a fitted opening before anything can be looked at, say so when you call, because that is often the longest part of the visit.
