The short answer for the PR models
On the Absocold PR refrigerator models, an ice supply that has stopped or gone wrong still leads to the same place as the brand-generic article: whether the cabinet has an automatic ice maker at all. What changes here is what sits behind it — there is no automatic ice maker to fail comes up to second, because this family is a short run on a common stem, so its behaviour is consistent in a way the brand as a whole is not.
What you observe on these models
- The shut-off arm or the switch is in the off position — It gets knocked up by a bag of frozen peas more often than anyone admits.
- Ice production has slowed rather than stopped — A partial restriction gives you some ice, just never enough to keep up.
- No ice at all, and the tray or the mould is dry — Nothing is arriving, which points at the supply rather than at the freezing.
- NEAR MISS — the cabinet is noisy and the ice stopped at the same time — A grinding or knocking noise plus no ice usually means something mechanical, and the noise is the lead.
Causes, most likely first on the PR family
- Whether the cabinet has an automatic ice maker at all — A great many compact cabinets freeze ice in a tray inside a small freezer compartment that shares its air with the fresh-food side. Ranked first on the PR models.
- There is no automatic ice maker to fail — Many compact cabinets make ice in a tray in a small freezer compartment. Second.
- The shut-off arm or the on switch is off — Free to check and free to fix, and it gets knocked out of position by a bag of frozen food more often than anyone would admit. Third.
- The fill valve itself — A valve that no longer opens, or one that no longer closes and so overfills. Last, and that is the point of the order.
- Body: The spine for the PR family records 7 model codes built on a common stem — a short run rather than a long one, which is why a single ordering covers all of them. Where this departs from the brand-generic ordering: the cause that moves up to second on these models is this one — there is no automatic ice maker to fail — while the brand-generic lead keeps the top.
Check in this order on the PR models, and why
- Measure the freezer temperature with a thermometer, not by feel — First: A freezer holds food safely at 0 degrees Fahrenheit, which is minus 18 degrees Celsius, or below, and an ice maker needs that too.
- Look at the shut-off arm and the on switch — Second: The temperature reading takes hours to set up and this takes seconds, so do it while the thermometer sits.
- Look into the mould and the chute for a plug of ice — Third: A visible plug tells you the fill overshot or the harvest failed, and that separates the supply half of the list from the module half.

Safety
Nothing comes off this cabinet until it is unplugged or its breaker is off — the capacitor holds a charge past the switch and the fan has no warning before it starts. The sealed side is licensed work, not owner work. Deal with the food first: a refrigerator holds it safely at 40 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 4 degrees Celsius, or below, and a freezer at 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

When to call a technician
Call once the freezer is measurably cold enough, the arm is down, the line is clear and the bin is empty and there is still no ice — at that point the fault is in the module, the mould heater or the fill valve, all of which need a meter behind a panel. Call sooner if you find water dripping from the supply fitting, because a slow leak behind a cabinet damages the floor long before anybody notices it. On the PR models the line sits where the check stops being one you can make from outside the cabinet. Book with the recess in mind: if the cabinet has to come out of a fitted opening before anything can be looked at, say so when you call, because that is often the longest part of the visit.
