The observable side of this fault
- The door will not lock, or will not release — Both are the same fault: the control cannot confirm the position, so it will not move on.
- The code arrives at the end of a cycle rather than the start — A lock that releases badly reports the same disagreement as one that engages badly.
- NEAR MISS - the door is locked and the display is dark — A dark display with a locked door is a power fault, and the release for it is a different procedure.
Causes in the order they actually occur
- Something in the way of the door or the strike — Ranked first because it needs no tools: a packed load, a rack proud of its rail or a bent strike stops the door short of the position the switch reports.
- The lock motor or its cam — Third: a motor that stalls part-way leaves the cam short of the switch, which reads from the control's side as a switch that never closed.

- Open the door and look along the strike and the seal — Free, and it finds the obstruction that causes most of these.
- Leave the switch and the motor to a technician — Both sit behind trim that is easy to break and awkward to refit.
