The short answer
What this symptom means on a Vesta washer depends on how the washer is built, and on this one the order runs like this. First — Fill hose washers or couplings. Last, and the only one that is a technician's job from the outset — A weeping pump or hose clamp inside. Start at the top: those checks are free and need nothing opened.
What you actually observe
- Water at the front of the machine after a wash — The commonest presentation and the least specific.
- Water at the back, near the taps — Points at the inlet couplings rather than the machine.
- Water only while the machine is pumping out — A drain-side leak rather than a fill-side one.
- NEAR MISS: foam rather than water on the floor — That is a detergent dose problem, not a leak.
Causes, most likely first on this build
- Fill hose washers or couplings — The inlet hoses are under mains pressure whenever the taps are open, and the rubber washers inside their couplings harden with age. A weep there runs down the hose and appears at the back of the machine. Ranked first on a Vesta: a value build gives you the least margin exactly where the load is highest, so the overloaded case is the normal case.
- Too much detergent — Foam escapes where water would not: out of the dispenser, past the door seal, through the vent. Second here, because a light cabinet transmits everything it cannot absorb, which turns an installation problem into what sounds like a mechanical one.
- A blocked detergent dispenser — The dispenser is flushed with water at the start of the cycle, and a drawer caked with softener residue sends that water over the front instead of into the drum. Third, once the two above are clean: it is quick, free and it settles whether anything needs opening.
- A weeping pump or hose clamp inside — The internal hoses are clamped rather than threaded, and a clamp that has relaxed weeps only while the pump is running. Last, and the reason the order above matters: it is the least likely of the four and the only one that is a service call from the first minute.
Check in this order, and why
- Dry the couplings at the taps and look again after a few minutes — Mains-pressure weeps show quickly once the area is dry.
- Look through the door at the end of a wash for foam — Foam on the glass explains water on the floor.
- Pull the dispenser drawer out and look for caked residue — It is washable and it is free.
What an owner can safely check
- Check how the machine stands and what it is standing on before anything else — A compact machine on a flat floor behaves; the same machine on an uneven one produces most of the complaints on this list.

Safety
Switch the machine off at its breaker or unplug it, and shut both taps, before opening any panel or filter. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off.
When to call a technician
Call when the hoses, the seal, the dispenser and the detergent dose are all accounted for and water is still reaching the floor, or as soon as the water appears to come from under the tub rather than from a connection. Stop using the machine in the meantime: water beside a powered appliance is the real hazard here.
