The answer first

- Run a maintenance wash on the hottest cycle with no load — Run the hottest empty cycle the machine offers, with a washing-machine cleaner or nothing at all, to shift soft deposit.

Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Close both taps before undoing a hose, and put a tray and a towel down before opening a filter — what comes out is hot on some cycles. Never defeat the door lock to open a machine mid-cycle: that lock is holding a drum full of water.
When to call a technician
The owner side ends at the checks above: no tools, no panel off, no meter. Anything that needs the cabinet off, a meter on live terminals, or the drum assembly disturbed is a service call rather than an afternoon. Call sooner if the fault is getting worse rather than staying the same, because a cheap cause left alone is how an expensive one arrives.
