The answer first
The usual answer on a TECCPO washer is a restriction on the drain. The standpipe height or a siphon is on the list below, and it is the least likely thing on it. Compact and undercounter machines change the ranking because they are put where there is room rather than where there is air: if yours is pushed into a niche or stands on a countertop, clearance and the hookup outrank the internals. What this looks like
- It always stops at the same point in the cycle — Repeatability names the step the machine cannot complete.
- Foam fills the door glass and does not clear — Suds smother the pump and stretch the cycle out.
- NEAR MISS — it will not start at all — A machine that never begins is a different fault and a different page.
Why this happens, in order of likelihood on TECCPO
- A restriction on the drain — The drain is the most common reason a cycle stalls, and the machine usually stops at the same point every time. That repeatability is the strongest single clue on the page. Ranked first on TECCPO: it explains more of these calls than anything below, and it is the cheapest to exclude.
- Too much detergent — A machine that stalls with a drum full of foam is not faulty. The tell is a cycle that got longer around the time the detergent was changed or the dose was increased. Second on TECCPO: it gives the same picture as the cause above and is separated from it by one free test.
- The hookup a compact or portable makes — The temporary hookup is the compact-unit cause: an adapter on a mixer tap, a drain hose hung over a sink edge, an outlet shared with the kitchen. Each one is fine when set up correctly and each one is easy to get slightly wrong. - The standpipe height or a siphon — A drain hose set too low lets the machine siphon while it is filling, so it fills and drains at the same time and never reaches its level. The cycle then waits indefinitely. Ranked last, and the order matters most right here: this is the one item that changes what the repair costs.
What to check first, second, third
- First: Note the exact point in the programme where it stops — It is first because a cycle that always stops at the same step is describing the step it cannot complete.
- Second: Look through the door for foam that is not clearing — Second because it costs nothing and because it invalidates the drain tests if left in place.
- Third: Check the hookup end to end before anything else — It is last here because the whole hookup is visible, and because a machine that was moved recently almost always tells you the answer here.
The checks you can do yourself
- Open the pump filter and check the drain hose for kinks — Put a towel and a tray down, open the filter slowly, clear it, then follow the hose to the standpipe looking for a kink or a crush.

Before you open anything
Safety
Shut both taps and isolate the machine before a hose or a filter is opened. Unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker before removing any panel. A capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Water from a filter can be hot, so use a tray. The door lock is a safety device holding back a drum of water — never defeat it.
Where owner work ends
Stop at the first step needing a meter on live terminals, and call from there. Anything that needs the cabinet off, a meter on live terminals, or the drum assembly disturbed is a service call rather than an afternoon. Call sooner if the fault is getting worse rather than staying the same, because a cheap cause left alone is how an expensive one arrives.
