Most dead dishwashers are waiting for a condition rather than failing. Here the ranking starts with breaker, isolation switch or a tripped GFCI.
What you observe
- The panel is completely dark — No power reaching the machine — the breaker, the switch or the socket.
- The panel lights but nothing happens on start — The machine has power and is declining to run.
- It beeps and the lights flash a pattern — A refusal with a reason: usually the door, a lock or a delay.
- NEAR MISS — it starts and runs but leaves the dishes dirty — That is a cleaning problem, not a start problem, and its own page ranks it.
Causes, most likely first on a Silonn dishwasher
- Breaker, isolation switch or a tripped GFCI — Most dishwashers sit on a switched fused spur or a dedicated breaker, and either can be off without anyone noticing. Ranked first on a Silonn dishwasher: a dark panel has exactly one explanation, and it is outside the machine.
- Water supply valve closed or the fill restricted — The supply valve under the sink is closed far more often than anyone expects, usually after other work.
- Control lock, delayed start or demo mode — A long press sets a control lock on most machines and there is little on the panel to say so.
- Door not latching, so the machine never confirms it — A rack pushed out slightly, or a tall item on the door shelf, holds the door a few millimetres open.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the breaker, the isolation switch under the sink and any GFCI on the circuit — The isolation switch is often inside the sink cabinet and easy to catch by accident.
- Check the supply valve under the sink is fully open — Run the kitchen tap: no pressure there means the supply is off everywhere.
- Look for a lock or delay indicator and try a long press on the lock key — Cancelling and reselecting the programme clears a delay.
What an owner can safely check
- Find the isolation switch or breaker for the dishwasher, switch it off for a minute, then back on — A standard US household branch circuit is 15 A or 20 A at 120 V. Reset any GFCI on the same circuit at the same time.

- Open the supply valve under the sink fully, then start a cycle and listen for the fill — A valve left part-closed after other work under the sink is a common and completely invisible cause.

Safety
Switch the dishwasher off at its breaker or its isolation switch before reaching into the sump — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and there is broken glass in more sumps than not. Wear a glove and use a torch rather than feeling around blind. Close the water supply valve before disturbing any hose. Do not lean on an open door: the hinge springs carry the weight of the door and a loaded rack, and a dishwasher is anchored to the worktop for that reason.
When to call a technician
Call once the power, the door latch, the lock and the water supply are all proved and the machine still refuses, because what is left is the door switch, the wiring or the board — all behind a panel. Support runs through the seller rather than a service network: check the warranty route first, because a compact unit is often replaced under it faster than it can be repaired.
