What you observe
- A few centimetres of water in the sump after every cycle — The normal picture of a restricted drain rather than a dead pump.
- The pump is audible but the level barely changes — A restriction downstream: hose, air gap or disposal.
- No pump sound at all at the end of the cycle — Points at power, a door confirmation or a jammed impeller.
- NEAR MISS — it drains fine but the dishes are dirty — That is a cleaning problem and it belongs on the cleaning-performance page.
Causes, most likely first on a Silonn dishwasher
- Garbage disposal knockout plug, or a full disposal — A disposal full of waste blocks the same inlet just as effectively. Ranked first on a Silonn dishwasher: the dishwasher drains into the disposal, so whatever is wrong there stops the dishwasher.
- Filter and sump blocked — The filter is the designed catch point, and a matted one stops the water reaching the pump at all.
- House drain or air gap restricted — A blocked counter-top air gap does the same thing and often spits water onto the worktop.
- Drain hose kinked, crushed or blocked — Grease collects at the low point of a sagging hose and narrows it over months.
Check in this order, and why
- Run the disposal, then check whether the dishwasher drains — If the machine has never drained properly, ask whether the knockout plug was removed.
- Lift the filter out and look into the sump with a torch — Wear a glove: there is broken glass in more sumps than not.
- Fill the sink and let it out: does it drain quickly? — A slow sink makes this a plumbing job rather than an appliance one.
What an owner can safely check
- Run the garbage disposal with the tap on for half a minute, then start a drain cycle on the dishwasher — If the machine has never drained since it was fitted, the disposal knockout plug is almost certainly still in place.

Safety
Isolate the machine at its breaker or switch before opening the sump; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and sump water hides broken glass. Use a glove and a torch. Shut the supply valve before touching a hose connection. Never put weight on an open door — the hinges carry the door and the rack, and the cabinet is anchored to resist exactly that.
When to call a technician
The owner's part is everything you can reach: the filter, the sump, the hose run, the disposal and the air gap. A jammed or dead drain pump is behind the sump housing and is a technician's job. Do not run further cycles on an undrained machine. Support runs through the seller rather than a service network: check the warranty route first, because a compact unit is often replaced under it faster than it can be repaired.
