The answer first
A Silhouette Pro refrigerator that runs without getting cold has usually lost airflow, not its compressor. The cause that ranks first here is evaporator fan not moving air, and the sealed system ranks last because it fails far less often than owners expect.
What you observe
- The cabinet is warm but the unit is plainly running — The signature of lost airflow rather than lost cooling.
- The freezer side is cold and the fresh-food side is not — Cold is being made and not delivered — an air path, a damper or a fan.
- A solid sheet of frost on the freezer's back wall — Not the usual dusting; that sheet is what the air cannot get through.
- NEAR MISS — it cools but the ice maker has stopped — Ice production fails on the water side and belongs on the ice-production page.
Causes, most likely first on a Silhouette Pro refrigerator
- Evaporator fan not moving air — The fan behind the freezer rear panel pushes the cold air the rest of the cabinet lives on. Ranked first on a Silhouette Pro refrigerator: it is the part that actually moves the cold air, and it runs whenever the compressor does.
- Defrost cycle stalled, evaporator iced over — An adaptive defrost cycle that stops running leaves a solid block of frost where the airflow should be.
- Door seal leaking, or a door not closing — A hardened gasket, or a door held open by a shelf, lets warm room air in continuously.
- Condenser coil blanketed in dust — The coil rejects the heat the cabinet takes out, and under a dust blanket it cannot.
Check in this order, and why
- Open the freezer and listen for the fan, holding the door switch in — A fan you can hear rules out half the list; silence narrows it the other way.
- Take the freezer rear panel off, or look through its vents, for frost — A solid block behind that panel is the answer, and no meter is needed to see it.
- Close the door on a sheet of paper and pull it out, right round both doors — Test top, bottom and both sides: a gasket fails at one corner first.
What an owner can safely check
- Hold the freezer door switch in and listen at the rear panel — A steady whirr means the air path is the fault; a click, a rattle or silence points at the fan itself.
About 10 min
- Empty the freezer into coolers, switch off, and let the cabinet stand open for a full manual defrost — Cooling that returns afterwards and fades again over days is the defrost system, not the compressor.
Tools: coolers, towelsAbout 45 min
- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired as you found it. Never take a knife, a screwdriver or a heat gun to frost on an evaporator: the tubing behind it is thin, pressurised, and a puncture ends the appliance. Empty a loaded cabinet before you move it.
When to call a technician
The line is the panel — in front of it is owner work, behind it is not. Call when the seal, the coil, the clearance and the controls are all good and the cabinet is still warm, and call straight away for a burning smell or a hard click-and-stall every few minutes. Pro-series hardware is usually serviceable and the parts are usually available, which makes a repair the right call far more often than it is on an entry compact unit.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the Silhouette Pro refrigerator as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the better answer — read it first. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, panel removal order and torque figures, all of which differ between families under one nameplate.
