The answer first
Most new refrigerator noises come from something touching something else, not from a failing compressor. On this machine the first suspect is cabinet not level, or touching a wall or cabinetry.
What you observe
- A ticking or chirping from inside the freezer — Something is touching the evaporator fan blade — usually frost.
- A buzz or hum from the bottom rear that comes and goes — The condenser fan or the compressor, and the timing tells you which.
- A rattle that stops if you press on the cabinet — Panel, tray or tubing resonance rather than a component fault.
- NEAR MISS — the noise is water running behind the panel — That is normal fill and drain, and if water is appearing on the floor the water-leak page is the right one.

Check in this order, and why
- Push gently on the top corners and see whether the cabinet rocks — Any rock at all means the feet need adjusting.
- Reach under the cabinet with the power off and check the pan is seated square — A pan that moves under light hand pressure is the source.
- Look at the rear of the cabinet for tubing that touches the frame or another line — With the power off, move a suspect line a few millimetres by hand and listen again.
What an owner can safely check
- Level the cabinet on its feet and pull it far enough forward that nothing touches the wall — A cabinet standing square on all four feet with clear air behind it loses most of its noise.

- Switch off, pull the lower grille and reseat the drain pan squarely in its rails — If the pan is cracked or warped it will rattle again; if it is simply out of place, this is the fix.

- STOP HERE if the next check needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the refrigerator or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Leave the door switch wired as you found it. Never take a knife, a screwdriver or a heat gun to frost on an evaporator: the tubing behind it is thin, pressurised, and a puncture ends the appliance. Empty a loaded cabinet before you move it.
When to call a technician
Call when the noise is a grinding that worsens, when it tracks the compressor exactly and the mounts look sound, or when a fan is clearly the source and it is behind a panel. A noise alone is rarely urgent; a noise with warmth in the cabinet is. Use an installer or technician authorised for the line: panelled and integrated machines can be damaged by the removal itself, and the trim and hinge hardware is specific to the family.
