The short answer
Most dead dishwashers are waiting for a condition rather than failing. Here the ranking starts with water supply valve closed or the fill restricted.
What you observe
- The panel is completely dark — No power reaching the machine — the breaker, the switch or the socket.
- The panel lights but nothing happens on start — The machine has power and is declining to run.
- It beeps and the lights flash a pattern — A refusal with a reason: usually the door, a lock or a delay.
- NEAR MISS — it runs and leaves water in the bottom — That is drainage, and the machine started perfectly well.
Causes, most likely first on a Signature Kitchen Suite dishwasher
- Water supply valve closed or the fill restricted — A machine that cannot fill will start and then stop, or sit humming without doing anything. Ranked first on a Signature Kitchen Suite dishwasher: it is outside the appliance, free to check, and disturbed by any plumbing work in the cabinet.
- Door not latching, so the machine never confirms it — A dishwasher will not run until the latch tells it the door is shut, and a worn strike leaves it unsure.
- Breaker, isolation switch or a tripped GFCI — A GFCI on the kitchen circuit trips for reasons elsewhere and leaves the machine dead.
- Control lock, delayed start or demo mode — A long press sets a control lock on most machines and there is little on the panel to say so.
Check in this order, and why
- Check the supply valve under the sink is fully open — Run the kitchen tap: no pressure there means the supply is off everywhere.
- Push the door firmly shut and listen for the latch — Check nothing on the racks holds the door open a few millimetres.
- Check the breaker, the isolation switch under the sink and any GFCI on the circuit — The isolation switch is often inside the sink cabinet and easy to catch by accident.
What an owner can safely check
- Open the supply valve under the sink fully, then start a cycle and listen for the fill — A valve left part-closed after other work under the sink is a common and completely invisible cause.
About 10 min
- Push the racks fully in, close the door firmly until the latch engages, and try start again — If it runs when the door is pushed hard, the latch or strike is worn and is the fault to fix.
About 10 min
- STOP HERE if the next step needs a panel off or a meter on live terminals — That is where the owner checks end and a service call begins, whatever the ranking says.
Before you open anything
Safety
Isolate the machine at its breaker or switch before opening the sump; a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off, and sump water hides broken glass. Use a glove and a torch. Shut the supply valve before touching a hose connection. Never put weight on an open door — the hinges carry the door and the rack, and the cabinet is anchored to resist exactly that.
When to call a technician
Owner work here is the breaker, the isolation switch, the door, the control lock and the supply valve. The door switch behind the latch, the wiring and the control board are a technician's job. Use an installer or technician authorised for the line: panelled and integrated machines can be damaged by the removal itself, and the trim and hinge hardware is specific to the family.

What this page does not cover
This page covers the Signature Kitchen Suite dishwasher as a class, not one family or model line. Where a family- or model-specific page exists for your unit it is linked above and it is the better answer — read it first. Deliberately not here: part numbers, wiring colours, panel removal order and torque figures, all of which differ between families under one nameplate.
