The short answer
A microwave door that no longer shuts, latches or sits square is nearly always worn latch hooks or a sagging hinge rather than a seal problem, because the seal is not a gasket at all. Never operate a microwave whose door is damaged, warped, bent or will not latch cleanly, and never tape, prop, pack or wedge a door closed or defeat an interlock switch for any reason: those switches and that metal trap are the only things containing the energy. Never attempt to adjust, bend or repair a latch, hinge or interlock. The capacitor inside a microwave holds a dangerous charge long after it is unplugged, so do not remove the cabinet at all.
When to call a technician
Call, or replace the oven, as soon as a door will not latch cleanly, sits out of square, or has any visible damage to the inner screen or the door edge. There is no owner fix for any of those and no safe way to keep using the oven in the meantime.
