The short answer
A cabinet that runs continuously and still warms up is almost never a dead compressor — a dead compressor is silent. It is nearly always something between the cold and the food: airflow, heat rejection, or a control that has stopped asking for cooling at the right moment. - Compare the setting against what the box is actually doing — A control that will not change behaviour when you move the setting has stopped reading the box.

Before you open anything
Safety
Unplug the cabinet or switch off its breaker before removing any panel — a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. Do not defeat the freezer door switch by wedging it; hold it in by hand for the moment you need to listen, then let it go. Refrigerant work is licensed work: never open, cut or braze a sealed-system line, and do not attempt to add refrigerant to a domestic cabinet.
When to call a technician
Call once the airflow, heat-rejection and seal checks are all clean, because what is left is behind a meter or inside the sealed system. Call immediately if you see oil at the compressor or at any tube joint: oil outside the tubing means the loop is open, and every further hour of running makes the repair larger.
