Causes, most likely first on this cooktop
- A partly seated connector at one end of the link — Both ends look fine from the front; a plug that is one pin out still reports as a lost link.
- A conductor broken inside the loom joining the boards — Flexing where the loom crosses a hinge or a panel edge breaks one strand at a time, which is why this starts intermittent.
- One of the two boards no longer answering — The code names the conversation, not the speaker, so either end can be the one that stopped.
- A supply fault leaving one board unpowered — A board with no supply cannot answer, and the board that can answer reports the silence as a broken link.

- Power down fully and restart before anything is opened — A link that comes back after a cold start was interrupted, not broken.
- Note how much of the display lights — A dark panel and a lit panel reporting the fault point at opposite halves of the link.
- Have both connectors reseated before either board is condemned — This is the fix in a large share of these calls and it costs parts nothing.
- Change boards one at a time, never as a pair — Changing both boards hides which one was at fault and doubles the invoice for no diagnostic gain.

Before any panel comes off, unplug the appliance or switch off its breaker: a capacitor can hold a charge after the power is off. A cooktop is hard-wired in most installations, so the breaker is the only isolation point — there is no plug to pull. The glass also holds heat long after the elements read as off. Leave the interlocking switches wired as they came. They exist to remove power at the moment it has to go.
When this stops being an owner job
A technician is the right next step as soon as a cold start has failed to restore the link. Everything past that point needs the panels off, and a countertop unit has to be freed from the cutout before anything under the glass is reachable.
